Bekasi, West Java (Antara) - The Pemuda Pancasila (PP) organization said the clash between its members and workers during recent strikes in Bekasi, West Java, was the result of disruptions caused by the workers.
"It happened because they blocked the street, thus obviously harming the public interests. We, as residents of Bekasi, could not accept this," head of the Bekasi branch of the organization, Apuk Idris, said in a press statement received by Antara here on Saturday.
He said the national strike staged by workers unions on October 31 had been considered by the community as having been out of proportion.
The workers had disrupted public activities in Bekasi, as they sought to take control of public roads by blocking several main access roads, he said.
"They seemed to take control of public facilities by blocking several roads, including the EJIP cross road. We, as Bekasi residents, were disturbed by this," he said.
He accused workers from FSPMI of breaking their commitment not to stage rallies during a meeting organized by the district administration on October 26.
"At that time, they pledged they would not conduct a convoy or a sweep, but the reality was different," he said. (*)
