Dumai, Riau (Antara) - Police are questioning a Malaysian citizen who was caught while allegedly smuggling 96.83 grams of methamphetamine, worth billions of rupiah, into the Riau provincial city of Dumai. "Customs office personnel in Dumai seaport nabbed Woon Chee Kon, 52, on Friday, Aug 2, at 11.45 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB)," TF Hutagaol, the drug affairs police chief at Dumai police precinct, said here over the weekend. According to Hutagaol, the Malaysian national was arrested when he left a ferry, the Indomal Express, sailing from Malaysia to Dumai. "We have received the transfer of the foreign suspect carrying the methamphetamine from the Customs office," Hutagaol disclosed, adding that security agencies have tightly controlled entry points to Dumai city prior to the Idul Fitri festival. "For committing his action, the suspect will be charged under the Narcotics Act 35, article 112, with the threat of 20 years in jail," the police official said. Currently, the suspect and the evidence are being held while further investigations continue. Meanwhile, MC Sarmento, intelligence section chief of Dumai Customs office, said the methamphetamine was found in five small clumps, each measuring 15 grams, stored in the suspect's shoes. In addition, 40 grams of drugs were concealed on his body. (*)
