BPOM Finds 17 Dangerous Cosmetic Products

Jakarta, May 13 (Antara) - Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) released 17 dangerous cosmetic products which were chemically-tainted and contained banned hazardous substances.
"BPOM has followed up its findings and will roll back and destroy the dangerous products," Lucky S Slamet, head of BPOM said here on Monday.
She said, BPOM has urged the public to not use the banned products.
"The prohibited products could endanger human health such as skin irritation or cause disorders to kidneys," she said.
Most of banned cosmetic products are composed of dangerous whitening substances such as Mercury, Hydroquinone and Retinoic Acid.
"In 2011 BPOM destroyed banned cosmetics worth Rp1.5 billion and last year we annihilated others worth Rp2 billion," she said.
Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency also found some dangerous products sold through on-line media in the Internet and at beauty parlors.
"We are cooperating with the Ministry of Communications and Information to supervise the circulation of dangerous cosmetics in the Internet," Lucky said.
