Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources affirmed that the recovery of electricity systems in flood- and landslide-hit regions in Sumatra continues to make significant progress.
The head of the ministry's disaster preparedness team, Rudy Sufahriadi, stated that 99 percent of customers and distribution substations in West Sumatra have regained access to electricity supply, following the normalization of the 74 previously affected feeders.
"The affected load in West Sumatra was 42 megawatts (MW), of which 40.9 MW, or 97 percent, has returned to operation. Of the 270,148 affected customers, as many as 268,883 customers, or 99 percent, are now receiving electricity again," he said in a statement on Friday.
The recovery process is also progressing quickly in North Sumatra, with the feeder restoration rate reaching 93 percent, meaning 96 out of a total of 103 feeders have returned to normal.
Of the 4,537 affected distribution substations, 3,778 substations, or 83 percent, have been operational.
He further said that 473,366 electricity consumers out of 544,048 affected consumers in North Sumatra have received electricity supply again.
Meanwhile, in Aceh, the recovery is still being carried out gradually. Out of 1,471,201 affected customers, 759,173 customers, or 52 percent, have had their electricity supply restored.
"The PLN (state-owned electricity company) team continues to work to restore electricity in the disaster-affected areas," he noted.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that 134 out of 300 feeders in Aceh have been recovered, and 7,596 out of 14,237 distribution substations have been restored.
The initial electricity outage of 358.8 MW in the province has begun to recover, with 162.87 MW now restored.
Sufahriadi asserted that his team and PLN will continue to speed up the normalization of the electricity networks across the affected areas with support from the regional governments and relevant stakeholders.
