Jakarta - Vice President Boediono has called on companies to channel Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for the environmental preservation efforts. "The CSR is important. Companies enjoying profits from operating in Indonesia's soil should give back some in the form of useful programmes, including for green economy," Vice President Boediono said at the opening of the Indonesian Environmental Week (PLI) exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Centre here on Thursday. "The CSR funds will be used to provide new technologies needed to support the environmental activities aimed at promoting sustainable development and addressing the global warming impact," he stated. Island countries such as Indonesia were vulnerable to the impact of the global warming, Boediono added. Earlier, while observing the World Environment Day on June 5, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the government was committed to "green economic development" to promote people's welfare without sacrificing the environment. "The green economic development approach is a major leap for us, because we have abandoned the previous economic practices that chased short-term benefits and passed down various environmental problems," President Yudhoyono stated.
