Prabowo approves expanded home renovation program to 2027

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has approved a plan to expand the government's home renovation program in 2027 to broaden public access to decent and affordable housing units.

According to a statement from Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya cited here on Wednesday, the approval was given during a meeting with Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (June 9).

Wijaya said the President received a report on the progress of several priority housing programs, including the ongoing home renovation program targeting the revitalization of “400,000 uninhabitable houses into inhabitable and comfortable homes for residents in various regions".

He confirmed that the president had agreed to expand the program’s outreach, sustaining it through 2027.

During the meeting, Prabowo and Sirait also discussed the progress of subsidized vertical housing construction in the Meikarta area of Bekasi, West Java. Standard Chartered Indonesia President Director Rino Santodiono Donosepoetro was also present at the meeting.

The cabinet secretary said that the project forms part to accelerate the three million homes program. “It has proceeded to land clearing and groundbreaking stages,” he added.

He said that the closed afternoon meeting reaffirmed the government's commitment to accelerating the implementation of various key programs in the housing sector, including development of subsidized homes for low-income residents and vertical housing expansions.

Wijaya added efforts are also underway to revitalize slum areas and design more accessible housing financing schemes.

"These efforts are part of the government's commitment to providing decent, affordable, and quality housing for all Indonesians," he said.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that all the initiatives reflected President Prabowo's vision of ensuring that national development has a broad impact beyond economic growth by directly improving people's living standards through wider access to housing.
