Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto greeted thousands of National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers stationed in Papua via video call alongside Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin on New Year's Eve.
The head of the Defense Ministry's Information Bureau, Brig. Gen. Frega Wenas Inkiriwang, stated on Wednesday that the president made the call while Sjamsoeddin joined soldiers at a New Year celebration in a military camp in Mimika, Central Papua.
During the video call, the president conveyed messages of encouragement from Jakarta.

"I want you to be reliable soldiers beloved by the people. The TNI is the guardian of our unitary republic, safeguarding our independence," Prabowo said via Sjamsoeddin's phone.
Prabowo expressed his and the nation's gratitude to the soldiers for their dedication and loyalty.
"Good luck with your duties. God bless you all," he said.
"Happy New Year to those on duty. Keep up your spirit and maintain your dedication to the state and the nation," he added.
At the New Year celebration, Sjamsoeddin was joined by several high-ranking officers, including TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto.
Sjamsoeddin reminded the soldiers to stay vigilant and support one another.
"Remember, you are tasked with safeguarding the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia from the outermost region," he said.
During his visit, he also distributed packages of nutritious beverages, vitamins, and medicines to the soldiers.
