Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The state electricity company PT PLN Operation Director for Bali-Java-Sumatera I. Ngurah Adnyana has expressed optimism that the power grid will link Java and Sumatera islands in 2017. "Java and Sumatera islands will be connected by an undersea cable, and besides this, we will also build a power plant in South Sumatra in the next three years," Adnyana noted here on Friday. He revealed that the power grid, which will connect the two main islands in Indonesia, is expected to cater to the increasing electricity demands of the people in Sumatera and West Java, in particular. "The coal-fired power plant will be built in Bulutambang, South Sumatera," he remarked, adding that with the new power plant becoming operational in the next three years, around 2.4 thousand megawatts of additional power will become available for distribution to Java and Sumatera.
