Jakarta (Antara) - Developing the railway system will be a solution for efficient logistic distribution in the Java and Sumatera islands, according to Supply Chain Organization Indonesia. "Efficiency can be instantly achieved when railways are used as a mode for transporting goods, as we can avoid traffic jams. Avoiding traffic snarls on the street also means that we can save time," Chairman of Supply Chain Indonesia Setijadi claimed here on Monday. He emphasized that it was necessary to develop the railway system in Java and Sumatera, considering that both the islands contribute 58 percent and 24 percent, respectively to the national economy. Setiijadi also called on the related authorities, such as private logistic companies and state-owned enterprises to jointly build facilities that can connect industrial areas to transportation centers. The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) also echoed the same viewpoint. Deputy Chairman of Kadin for Logistic Affairs Carmelia Hartoto was optimistic that Indonesia's next president will help to boost the transportation sector in order to improve national competitiveness.(*) Reporting by Muhammad Razi Rahman Translating and Editing by Amie Fenia Arimbi
