Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - A total of 217 students from junior and senior high schools in Surabaya are taking part in a young scientist competition aimed at producing young talented researchers. Addressing the competition held at the Bank Indonesia Library Building here on Wednesday, Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini encouraged the students to have a high degree of curiosity about numerous issues in the community by conducting researches. "I want Surabaya to have young successful researchers whose innovations will be used by global industries," she said. That the rising number of students took part in the competition suggested that Surabaya students had high interests in conducting researches, she said. A total of 217 students are taking part in the competition, displaying a wide range of research works in math, physics, ecology and computer. This compared to 160 students last year. The mayor expressed hope that the students would conduct researches not only to meet school assignment and participate in competition but also to use the researches as a source of income.
