Kuta, Bali (Antara) - Security personnel consisting of police officers and the Indonesian Air Force are securing Bali's Ngurah Rai airport following the report of the Australian Virgin airplane hijacking incident. The measure was taken after a drunken passenger sparked a mid-flight drama on the Virgin Australia airplane on its way to Bali from Brisbane. The security personnel had to shut down the Ngurah Rai's airport for safety reasons from all sides, guarding the surrounding areas starting from the Kuta beach and nearby houses, and close roads that lead to the Ngurah Rai airport. Based on the current situation in Ngurah Rai, the reportedly drunk passenger who attempted to enter the cockpit had been identified as a 28-year-old Australian national Matthew Christopher. Previously, the air traffic control received a communication from the cockpit one hour into the flight, as the pilot broadcasted a hijack code. The Boeing 737-800 Flight VA41 from Brisbane was due to arrive in Denpasar at 2.45 p.m. local time, but touched down at 3.16 p.m. (*)
