Tasikmalaya, W Java (Antara) - A join team of Indonesian Police and Military personnel are deployed to help evacuating victims after a train derailed in Ciawi, Tasikmalaya, West Java on Friday, April 4. According to the Ciawi Police Chief, Police Commisioner Eban Subanras the train derailed in Kampung Ciserung, Mekarsari Village, Ciawi sub-district at around 19:00 local time, GMT +7. Eban said that the exact cause of the railway accident is still under investigation. "We must see the crash site before we can decide what to do next," Eban said here Friday. An eyewitness said that the Malabar train was derailed and tumbled after hitting a landslide. "The train hit a landslide and some of its carriages then tumbled," said Lela, who happened to be near the crash site when the accident took place. State railway company PT Kereta Api spokesperson for Bandung office Zunerfin confirmed that the Malabar train accident was caused from a landslide on the track. "The derailed Malabar train consisted of one locomotive, four cars and a restoration car. The accident was clearly caused by a landslide that covered the track before the carriage crashed into into it," said Zunerfin. From this incident, at least 13 trains had to turn back and take a longer route, said State railway company PT Kereta Api spokesperson for Purwokerto, Central Java office Surono. "There are seven trains from the east and six from the west, Bandung, which must detour through Cirebon," Surono said. (*)
