Jakarta (ANTARA) - State railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) said the death toll from a train collision at Bekasi Timur Station rose to 16, with 91 injured as of Wednesday.

KAI Vice President Corporate Communications Anne Purba said 107 victims were recorded, including 16 fatalities and 91 injured.

She said 43 of the injured have been discharged, while the rest remain hospitalized.

“We extend our deepest condolences to victims and families, and are focused on care and information support,” she said.

She added recovery of commuter line services on the Bekasi-Cikarang route is progressing.

Following gradual evacuation of damaged infrastructure, an initial operational trial was conducted safely.

A test train passed Bekasi Timur Station at noon Wednesday as part of readiness checks.

“This test ensures infrastructure, signaling and safety systems are ready before services resume,” she said.

She said the recovery process continues to prioritize treatment for victims.

KAI is also cataloguing recovered belongings and returning them to families in stages through a coordinated process.

Information posts have been set up at Bekasi Timur Station and Gambir Station to assist families and affected passengers, including ticket refunds.

KAI said service recovery will proceed in stages after safety evaluations and testing, with updates provided regularly.

The collision on Monday involved a Cikarang Commuter Line train and the Argo Bromo Anggrek, disrupting and canceling several services.
