Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is accelerating the construction of temporary housing and the implementation of Weather Modification Operations (OMC) as part of recovery and mitigation efforts following wet hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.
Head of BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said on Tuesday that speeding up the construction of temporary housing is a top priority to support affected communities entering the early recovery phase.
Of the 17,332 temporary housing units proposed, 5,039 units have been completed and are ready for occupancy, with full completion targeted before Ramadan 1447 Hijri, or mid-February.
In addition, requests for 14,286 permanent housing units have been submitted, while the Housing Waiting Fund (DTH) assistance scheme continues to be optimized to meet basic community needs during the transition period.
As of early February 2026, BNPB recorded that 18,938 DTH recipient accounts were ready, with assistance distributed to 9,360 families.
To reduce the risk of further disasters, BNPB is also carrying out Weather Modification Operations(OMC) in affected areas. In Aceh, the operations involved 532 sorties, dispersing 508,000 kilograms of seeding material.
In North Sumatra, 406 sorties were conducted with 357,000 kilograms of seeding material deployed, while in West Sumatra, 409 sorties were carried out, delivering 406,325 kilograms of seeding material.
BNPB reiterated its commitment to strengthening cross-sector coordination to accelerate recovery efforts, mitigate disaster risks, and enhance community resilience in disaster-prone areas.
In addition to providing temporary housing, the government has facilitated the distribution of 6,274 tonnes of disaster relief logistics between November 29 last year and January 27, 2026.
Of that amount, 1,767 tonnes of essential goods, tools, and equipment were delivered to the three provinces through various routes, including 56 flights by BNPB-chartered aircraft, 68 sorties by military Hercules planes, 55 truck deliveries, and seven shipments by sea.
