Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Indonesia announced on Friday, January 23, that Interpol had issued a red notice for Mohammad Riza Chalid (MRC).
“Following the issuance of the red notice, we conducted follow-up coordination with our counterparts, both domestically and internationally, as well as with relevant ministries and institutions,” Secretary of the NCB of Interpol Indonesia Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko said on Sunday, February 1.
Widyatmoko stressed that the NCB of Interpol fully supports law enforcement efforts against suspects who have fled abroad and are now classified as international fugitives.
“The NCB of Interpol supports law enforcement actions against individuals who escape overseas to evade legal responsibility for crimes committed in Indonesia, thereby becoming international fugitives,” he said.
The NCB of Interpol Indonesia has also coordinated with Interpol Headquarters in Lyon, France, regarding the red notice issuance process for MRC.
Widyatmoko noted that the successful issuance of the red notice was not solely the result of the efforts of the NCB of Interpol Indonesia and the Indonesian National Police, but also the outcome of cooperation among various domestic and international agencies.
“This achievement reflects the support and collaboration of ministries, institutions, and international organizations committed to law enforcement and the pursuit of international fugitives,” he said.
A red notice is a request issued by Interpol to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest an individual for legal proceedings.
Widyatmoko confirmed that MRC’s whereabouts are being monitored following the issuance of the red notice.
“We can confirm that the individual is currently in an Interpol member country, and his location has been mapped and placed under surveillance. Our team is currently in the country concerned,” he said.
However, he added that specific details regarding MRC’s location cannot be disclosed to the public to safeguard the ongoing law enforcement process.
MRC has been named a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina Subholding and Cooperation Contract Contractors from 2018 to 2023.
