Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini should get another term in office in order to accomplish her programs, non-active secretary-general of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Tjahjo Kumolo has stated.
"We need to give Madame Risma a chance (to seek reelection). She must hold the post for two terms," Kumolo said after the presentation of the Urban Management Innovation Awards at the City Hall here on Thursday.
According to him, Rismaharini who is Surabaya's first woman mayor has been quite successful in carrying out her programs and realizing her ideas.
Ideally, a regional head should assume the post for two terms to complete his/her programs, noted Kumolo, who is also the Home Affairs Minister.
"Don't think of leading a region for just one term," he added.
However, he declined to comment on the PDIP's sub-branches in Surabaya rejecting Rismaharini's bid for a second term in office.
"Personally, I wish Madame Risma will lead Surabaya again because she has been successful. But as far as the party is concerned, I don't want to meddle in it," he remarked.
Rismaharini herself is still undecided about running for the Surabaya mayor again in the December 2015 election.
"I must focus on my main duties first. Whether or not I will run for the election is another business," she observed. (*) Reported by Fiqih Arfani
