Jakarta (Antara) - The National Police Criminal Investigation Board (Bareskrim) has denied that it intimidated Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Chairman Bambang Widjojanto during questioning. "It is not true there had been intimidation," head of sub-directorate VI of the board's general crime directorate Snr. Commr. Daniel Bolly Tifaona said here on Thursday. According to Bolly, Widjojanto's team of 20 lawyers got angry as the police allowed only three of them to accompany him to the investigation. He also clarified Widjojanto's statement that the police restricted the number of his lawyers. "Under the Penal Code, lawyers are only allowed to listen and see; they are not allowed to speak while an interrogation is going on," he added. Earlier, Widjojanto stated he felt intimidated when he was being questioned by Bareksrim. "Imagine! When I was being questioned, there were suddenly some provost officers inside the room. In what capacity did they guard the questioning? I have never seen such a situation before and I protested against it (the presence of provost officers)," he noted. (*)
