Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - Surabaya city administration in East Java has organized eight foreign language courses at the Language House as part of efforts to face the implementation of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015. The language courses have received a great response from the public, head of the city administration's cooperation section Ifron Hadi Susanto said here on Wednesday. "In response to their enthusiasm, the Language House has increased the number of foreign languages taught," he noted. He stated that when Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini inaugurated the Language House on the Pemuda Hall compounds in February this year, it only conducted Mandarin and English courses. But as time went by, courses were increased and local residents could study German, French, Japanese, Korean, Indian, and Thai, he said. "In total, eight foreign languages are being taught," he pointed out. English, Mandarin, French, and Japanese have remained favorite among local students, he said, adding that the classes for these languages were always full. In fact, the management of the Language House was overwhelmed by the influx of participants to find rooms. "Thank God, we have additional rooms to accommodate students in large numbers," he added.
