The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) confirmed crude oil supplies from Nigeria have arrived in Indonesia as one of the government's efforts to diversify national crude oil sources.

"Some have been realized, (one from Nigeria) it's already underway; some have (arrived)," the ministry's Director General of Oil and Gas, Laode Sulaeman, said here on Wednesday.

Sulaeman added Indonesia has secured crude oil supplies from countries whose the shipping routes do not pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which now remains closed amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States (US), Israel, and Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz handles 20 percent of global oil shipments and 80 percent of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade for Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Therefore, Indonesia has begun exploring alternative oil sources. Sulaeman mentioned three countries are considered to be potential alternative sources of crude oils in large volumes, namely Russia, the United States, and Nigeria.

On that occasion, he also stated that Indonesia's energy stocks, including crude oil, fuel oil (BBM), and LPG, are secure. Sulaeman then emphasized the government's commitment to ensure the availability of fuel stocks to serve the public.

"ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia often says we sometimes have to stay up all night every day to ensure the adequate stocks. That's what we do to fulfill the people's needs," Sulaeman said.

Before the outbreak of the US-Israel war with Iran, Lahadalia stated that around 20 percent of Indonesia's crude oil imports previously came from the Middle East.

The government then prepared alternative supplies from other countries, including from Angola, Nigeria, Brazil, the United States, and Russia, in response to the geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East.

In the mid-April 2026, the minister negotiated the purchase of crude oils and LPG from Russia during a meeting with Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev in Russia on April 14.

Indonesia also secured a commitment to purchase 150 million barrels of crude oil from Russia, with deliveries scheduled for the end of 2026.
