Jayapura, Papua - US Ambassador to Indonesia Scot Marciel and a 16-member entourage arrived in Jayapura on Sunday for a three-day visit, according to spokesman of the Papua provincial police Adj. Snr. Comr. I Gede Sumerta Jaya.
While in the Papuan provincial capital, Marciel would hold talks with the commander of the Cenderawasih regional military command, members of the Papuan People's Council (MRP), and officials of the provincial education office, I Gede Sumerta said on Monday.
The chief of the Papua provincial police was expected to hold a dinner banquet in honor of the US ambassador and entourage on Monday, he said.
"There are a number of important activities the US ambassador and entourage will carry out while in Jayapura city," he said.
The US ambassador would leave Jayapura for Jakarta on Tuesday, the police spokesman said.
MRP spokesperson Niluh Puspa Jayaningsih meanwhile confirmed Marciel's plan to visit the council on Monday at 02.00 p.m. local time.
But Niluh added that she did not know what both sides would discuss at the meeting. "Surely, I don't know what they will talk about. If I am not mistaken deputy chairman I Hofni Simbiak will receive the US ambassador and entourage," she said by her cellular phone. (*)
