Ambon, Maluku - Poverty is not an obstacle for achieving one's goal in life, said Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri during his visit to Melati Al Khairat Orphanage Foundation here on Friday.
"Strive to become godly persons while setting your goal as high as possible, and try to gain it, because poverty is not an obstacle for reaching it," the minister remarked.
During his visit, the minister provided aid funds worth Rp80 billion to both Melati Al Khairat Orphanage Foundation and Ittaqollah Foundation in Ambon.
In his dialogue with the orphans at the foundation, the minister asked them about their goal in life.
Sulaiman, who is the orphaned child of Ambon conflict victims, replied that he wanted to be a policeman.
"I want to be a policeman to make the city of Ambon safe," Sulaiman remarked.
Meanwhile, Yuly, another orphan at the Ittaqollah Foundation, said that she wanted to be a doctor.
Upon hearing their goals, the social affairs minister asked the orphans to study hard to reach these goals without admitting a sense of despair over their circumstances. (*)
