Jakarta (ANTARA) - The privatization committee will soon continue discussions of state pawnshop PT Pegadaian's plan to make an initial public offering (IPO) of its shares, an official said.
"We will soon discuss the planned IPO of PT Pegadaian with the privatization committee," the deputy for services to the state enterprises minister, Parikesit Suprapto, said on Friday.
He added that he hoped the committee would endorse the company's plan to conduct an IPO. The committee's endorsement would later be brought to the House of Representatives Commission VI for approval.
"We hope the privatization committee would endorse the plan as soon as possible so we can propose it during a meeting with House Commission VI," he said.
Earlier, State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan pledged to approve Pegadaian's plan for the IPO if the company reduced its interest rate and maintained services for lower income customers.
He said five percent of the company's customers were from lower-income brackets. If the company wished to float its shares to the public, it should maintain these customers, Iskan said.
The IPO, which was originally planned for this year, was delayed following shareholders' plans to commercialize the company. This would result in shareholders seeking a higher percentage of profits, which would have an impact on the interest rate.(*)
