Surabaya, East Java, (Antara) - The United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) has asked the East Java provincial city of Surabaya to host the Child Worthy City International Meeting in May 2018.
Tri Rismaharini, the mayor of Surabaya, remarked here on Sunday that the city of Surabaya is now on the world map, meaning that the city is already famous on a global scale.
"Not only in environmental management and settlement arrangement that leads Surabaya to get Global Green City Award 2017, but also to predicate city worthy of children," said Risma.
According to her, when she received the Global Green City award in New York at the end of October 31, Surabaya has become the talk of the United Nations related to city worthy of children.
"It turns out that a a child worthy city has become the talk at the UN there, Surabaya is famous as a city worthy of children," she said.
The mayor said from the explanation from the Unicef, the feasibility of Surabaya as a city worthy of the child because it has met many of the required categories.
This is because Surabaya has been focusing on meeting the needs of the children, among them by building Mathematics Houses, Language Houses, Broadband Learning Center to build circuit in Gelora Bung Tomo area in West Surabaya.
On that basis, said Risma, Unicef then asked Surabaya to host an international seminar on worthy city of children to be held in 2018.
"In May next year, Unicef asks to hold an international meeting on the worthy city of children in Surabaya. I am also asked to be a speaker to explain about this," she said.
