Banda Aceh, Aceh, (Antara)- An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter Scale jolted Aceh Singkil, Aceh Darussalam Province, on Sunday at 4:32 a.m. local time.
The tectonic quake did not have potential to trigger a tsunami, according to the Aceh meteorological, climatology, and geophysics office.
The tremor's epicenter was located at 2.14 degree northern latitude and 97.84 degree eastern longitude, or 23 km southeast of Singkil City.
"The epicenter was 10 km below sea level, but there was no tsunami," Eridawati, head of the Mata Ie geophysics station, said.
The earthquake was felt by residents of Singkil and Subulusalam town at II MMI (modified mercalli intensity), and inhabitants of Gunung Sitoli, North Sumatra Province, at I MMI.(*)
