Jakarta, (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) told the home affairs minister to cancel 3,000 regulations issued by regional administrations considered problematic.

"Just revoke them all immediately, either those on tariff  or ones contrary to the law," Jokowi said when opening a  national conference  of the Indonesian Forum of Rectors  in Yogyakarta  on Friday night.

The president said the home affairs ministry has the authority to scrap all problematic regulations without making studies.

"No need for time consuming studies Mr. minister," the president said specially addressing Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, who was attending the ceremony.

Problematic regulations would make it difficult in carrying out the national and economic development, he said.

In addition to accuracy, quickness is needed in taking decision  in carrying out development, he added.

"Why we need so many regulations. What for? Such regulations would only put ourselves in trap," he said.

He said the nation needs to develop mentality with high competence and professionalism.

He said problematic regulations would be a drag on efforts to develop national character.

The Jokowi administration has issued a series of economic policy packages since last year marked with red tape cutting,  deregulation measures  and simplification of procedure to lure in investors.(*)
