Jakarta (Antara) - The police anti-terrorism unit, Densus 88, arrested a terror suspect in Purworejo, Central Java. "Yesterday, on Tuesday (September 16), at around 4.20 a.m. local time, Densus 88 arrested an alleged terrorist named Chandra alias Suharto alias Arif Suharto in Purworejo, Central Java," Head of the public information division of the National Police Command, Senior Commissioner Agus Riyanto stated here on Wednesday. He revealed that Chandra, who hails from Pangenrejo village, was arrested near his home while on his way to the market to work as a soybean milk vendor. Chandra was arrested as he had provided cover to Noordin M. Top and Dr Azahari who were wanted by the police since 2004. "He has been wanted by the police for his involvement in hiding Noordin M. Top and Dr Azahari," Riyanto noted. Malaysian nationals, Noordin and Azahari, who were believed to have orchestrated several bombing incidents in Indonesia, have already been reported dead. Dr Azahari blew himself up during a raid in Batu, Malang, East Java, on November 9, 2005, while Noordin was killed during a raid in Solo, Central Java, on September 17, 2009. Agus Riyanto noted that Chandra was now being detained in the Purworejo police sector. He remarked that the police had confiscated a motorbike, which is believed to be used by the suspect so far. Riyanto emphasized that the police will continue its search for other terror suspects who had been on their wanted list, although they were involved in terrorism cases several years ago, as part of their efforts to prevent the formation of new terror cells.(*)
