Jakarta (Antara) - An Islamic religious teacher has been arrested by anti-terrorist squad Densus 88 in Bekasi, West Java.
Ustad Afif Abdul Majid alias Afif was arrested at around 10.45pm on Saturday, Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command spokesman Senior Commissioner Rikwanto said here on Sunday.
Densus 88 in cooperation with police members from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command and the National Police Headquarters arrested Ustad Afif Abdul Majid, who is also the chief executive of Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid, while he was at a kebab shop on Jalan Wibawa Mukti in the sub-district of Jatiasih, Bekasi, West Java, he said.
Based on information, Afif was allegedly involved in funding Ubaid in Aceh in 2010, he added.
Rikwanto said the police also suspected that Ustad Afif had also been involved in an Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) declaration event in the country.
Besides Afif, the police have also held four people who live in the shop house as witnesses, he said.
The Jatiasih police sector's chief, Commissioner Imelda Sihotang, meanwhile said on Sunday that "A is strongly believed to have funded terrorist activities in Aceh since 2012 and has long been targeted by the police."
She said the police also knew he had once declared himself as a follower of ISIS ideology in Bekasi.
She said A was visiting his friend named Yahya at "Bagdad Kebab 99" shop when he was arrested.
Yahya, a resident of Villa Jatirasa, opened the shop with his family since February 2014, she said.
"The arrest went smoothly without any resistance," she added. (*)
