Banda Aceh, Aceh (Antara) - The military tribunal in Banda Aceh sentenced a private first class soldier to three years' imprisonment for lending a firearm to attack a National Democratic (Nasdem) Party command post. In its verdict, the panel of judges said Private First Class Heri Shafitri was convincingly and lawfully proven guilty of violating article 1 sub-article (1) of emergency law number 12 of 1951 and article 127 of law number 35 of 2009 on narcotics. They also discharged Heri Shafitri from the Army because he is no longer suited to serve the military. Heri Shafitri was found guilty of lending a SS2 firearm owned by the Indonesia military (TNI) to two civilians, who later used it to shoot at the Nasdem Party command post, they said. "The defendant lent a firearm to serve his personal interest. This is based on the fact that the defendant was pledged Rp1 million in cash," the panel of judges said. The defendant was also found guilty of consuming crystal methamphetamine (shabu-shabu), they added. Heri Shafitri and his team of lawyers are still considering the verdict. Meanwhile, public prosecutor Chk Utje Koswara accepted the verdict. (*)
