Jakarta (Antara) - The Chairman of Child Protection Task Force (Satgas PA) Muhamad Ihsan said the government should take immediate steps to deal with violence among students. "The Satgas PA has received reports from parents who worry about the fate of their children due to violence among students. We suggest the government take efforts in reducing this," Ihsan said here, Saturday. Violent incidents continue to be reported among students in Indonesia after a recent incident involving mercury aboard a bus. Also, twelve students were attacked by four students at the Muhammadiyah I Vocational School on Friday. "We are very concerned about the psychological condition of students. The police should immediately arrest the perpetrators who are behind throwing mercury at four students of Muhammadiyah I," Ihsan said. He said parents are anxious about their children in school. "There is no safe place for students in Jakarta after the mercury incident on the public transportation," Ihsan said. He added that parents are considering safer environments for their children, including options such as home schooling, so they can be spared the violence at schools. "We understand the concern of parents. If parents prevent their children from going to school because of security concerns, it will affect the child's development, as not all children would want home schooling," he added. (*)
