Jakarta (Antara) - The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) has condemned the bomb blast at a Buddhist monastery here on Sunday night. "MUI condemns the incident, which has marred the observation of the holy month of Ramadan," MUI Chairman Slamet Effendi Yusuf said in Jakarta on Monday. Slamet expressed hope that the police would conduct a thorough investigation and disclose the names of the culprits behind the incident. "We request everyone not to be incited by this incident," he stated. He said the incident would not disrupt the harmony between adherents of different faiths and ethnic groups in the country. "We also hope that religious figures will not allow this issue to spread to other problems," he remarked. MUI Co-Chairman KH Ma'ruf Amin, meanwhile, asked the public not to be disenchanted by the incident. "[We will] investigate the case and arrest the culprits," he confirmed. If the incident was related to the Rohingya case, it was because an irresponsible party had tried to pit the adherents of different faiths against one another, he said. (*)
