Legislator and Son Facing Jail Term in Koran Graft Case

Jakarta (Antara) - The prosecutor on Monday asked the Jakarta Corruption Court to punish with imprisonment a legislator and his son charged with extortion and graft in the procurement of computer laboratory and the Koran, the Islamic holy book.
The prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) demanded jail terms 12 years for Zulkarnaen Djabar and 9 years for his son Dendy Prasetia Zulkarnaen Putra.
The prosecutor also demanded that the suspects to pay Rp14.39 billion in compensation to the state or their assets be confiscated to be auctioned.
Zulkarnaen, former treasurer of the Golkar Party, Dendy and Fadh El Fouz were charged with receiving a graft of Rp14.39 billion for the procurement of computer laboratory for an Islamic school and the Koran for the religious affairs ministry.
Dendy and Fadh are members of the MKGR , an affiliate of Golkar.
Zulkarnaen also implicated a number of officials of the religious affair ministry and a Golkar leader Priyo Budi Santoso in the graft case. (*)
