Jakarta - The Jakarta Police were in for a shock when suspected terrorist Muhammad Toriq (30), carried a pistol with him while surrendering.
"A man who claimed to be Muhammad Toriq came to a police post in Jembatan Lima on Sunday evening at 5.30 pm while carrying a 'sixhour' pistol," said Senior Commissioner Rikwanto.
Toriq is alleged to be a bomb-maker and had escaped from his home in Tambora, West Java. Rikwanto refuted allegations that Toriq was carrying a bomb with him when he surrendered, but said that he was carrying a wig and a belt.
Police said Toriq gave up to the police because he wanted to meet his mother, wife and kids.
Toriq is being investigated at Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters detention center (Mako Brimob) Kelapa Dua in Depok, West Java.
The Police suspect one of the five wounded people in Depok blast on September 8 was Toriq, however, the authorities have not confirmed this yet due to his surrendering.
Residents were shocked by an explosion in a house made to look like an orphanage at Jl. Nusantara Raya 63, Beji in Depok, a town in Jakarta's outskirts on Saturday night at 9.27 pm.
The explosion wounded five people, one of them alleged to be Toriq. Two other people reportedly fled the scene after the bomb went off.
Toriq, who is unemployed, fled from his home when his neighbours found smoke coming out of the house on Wednesday (Sept 5). (*)
