Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie called for research by universities in Aceh to support the progress of sustainable development in the province.
"We must carry out local research that will have an impact on local economic development, eradicate poverty, and improve human resources," she noted in a statement from her ministry in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Christie emphasized that local research is strategically important in realizing a sustainable economy.
To this end, she expressed appreciation for the research conducted by various universities, vocational schools, and research groups in supporting the development of Aceh with local research results that are considered effective and practical.
The research has been conducted on fish bone waste, patchouli leaves, and coconut coir.
"Progressive research needs to be accompanied by the latest technology. In this case, the results of the research will be more efficient with the help of technology," she remarked.
The deputy minister also lauded the representation of women who have been directly involved in the advancement of research, science, and technology in Aceh.
Christie advised the local government to tap into universities, students, and lecturers in the region to manage and respond to problems faced by the region.
"Universities are national assets to bring economic growth to regions because universities are one of the assets that can provide sustainability," she remarked.
In this regard, she invited all academicians to assess the country's resources and conduct downstreaming and research to realize a more advanced Indonesia.
