Manpower Minister Yassierli, on Thursday, shed light on his plan to organize a job expo every week to help Indonesia reduce the unemployment rate among its citizens amid a domestic economic slowdown.

The minister highlighted his plan during the opening of the Jakarta Employment (Jaknaker) Expo 2024 held in South Jakarta.

"A job fair like this is very strategic to us, as it facilitates job seekers to directly connect with companies. We hope to be able to sustain this initiative. Our plan is to make this job fair a weekly agenda," he told reporters.

Yassierli assessed that the intensive holding of such an event is important to help the nation weather the economic slowdown marked by a deflation registered in five consecutive months since May 2024.

In view of this, the minister underscored that the number of unemployed residents in Indonesia has reached about 7.5 million.

Meanwhile, Acting Jakarta Governor Teguh Setyabudi seconded Yassierli's view while stressing that his government is ready to support and follow the central government's initiatives.

He also highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to address unemployment issues, especially in Jakarta.

To support the actualization of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, he underscored the need for Jakarta to pursue both the development of its infrastructure and human resources.

Regarding the quality of human resources, Setyabudi underscored the importance of providing training courses to citizens to produce ready-to-work, competent, and certified workers whose skills align with the actual needs of industries and corporations.

The Jaknaker Expo 2024, taking place at Sudirman Hall on November 21-22, offers job seekers information on job vacancies and available work training programs.
