Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Marthinus Hukom announced plans to address drug trafficking in prisons by collaborating with Minister of Immigration and Penitentiary Affairs, Agus Andrianto.
"Soon I will meet with the Minister of Immigration and Penitentiary Affairs. We will develop a program to solve this issue," said Hukom after attending the Indonesia Bersinar (Clean without Drugs) event here on Sunday.
At the event themed "Drugs Aren't Cool, They Make You Fool", Hukom emphasized the importance of promptly implementing the program once ready. "We will work immediately," he stated.
Hukom's remarks came in response to a case involving an officer at Salemba Class II A Prison in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, who discovered illegal drugs hidden in the private area of an inmate's wife during visiting hours.
"We arrested a woman identified as EN, a 35-year-old resident of Batang, Central Java, who was carrying goods suspected to be narcotics," said Beni Hidayat, an officer at the prison, on Wednesday (October 23).
During a search, EN was found with methamphetamine and ecstasy pills hidden in her private area.
"The drugs were wrapped in black duct tape and concealed there," Hidayat explained.
EN was suspected of attempting to deliver 4.95 grams of methamphetamine and six ecstasy pills to her husband, an inmate at the prison.
EN was arrested on Tuesday (October 22) at around 1:17 p.m. local time.
Following this incident, Hidayat urged all Salemba Prison officers to conduct stricter searches and maintain vigilance.
