First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo launched the 2024 National Creative Gymnastics Contest in Jakarta on Wednesday, the Presidential Secretariat said in a statement.
This is the third annual National Creative Gymnastics Contest, held in collaboration with the Onward Indonesian Cabinet Era Solidarity Action Organization (OASE KIM), the Indonesian Women's Sports Association (Perwosi), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The competition is for the First Lady Cup.
Perwosi Chairwoman Tri Tito Karnavian said that this year's contest was participated by 46 teams from 34 provinces. All the participants have undergone selection processes in their provinces.
"They will showcase gymnastics performances with local music," she remarked.
Tri expressed hope that the national contest would encourage more women to develop a passion for sports.
"Since they are the managers of their households, they are expected to help nurture a love for sports among family members," she said.
In a separate statement, Niena Kirana Ariotedjo, chairperson of the event's organizing committee, stated that the competition is being held to encourage women to build healthy families that are believed to be fundamental to bringing progress to the nation.
"It is an honor for us to have the opportunity to bring together representatives of almost all provinces of Indonesia to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship," she said.
