Jakarta, (Antara) - Poland has offered cooperation for the development of a radar system to Indonesia to strengthen the defense industry in the country.
The offer was presented to Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu here on Friday by the Polish government through its Embassy Chargé d'Affaires for Indonesia, Igor Kaczmarczyk.
"The Polish defense industry is capable of making sophisticated radar, which is important to secure the marine areas, and for the air defense systems; so the purpose of this meeting is to strengthen cooperation between both countries in the context of defense," Kaczmarczyk remarked in a written statement of the Defense Ministry on Friday.
He said that in addition to cooperating with Indonesia for the development of radar systems, Poland is believed to be keen to forge cooperation for the procurement of light armored vehicles.
"For the cooperation to work concretely, the two countries need to form a joint working group to discuss in detail the potential issues," Kaczmarczyk noted.
He added that in order to explore the collaboration, the Polish government has also invited Defense Minister Ryacudu or representatives of the defense industry in the country to visit and witness the defense industry exhibition in Poland, in early September.
According to Kaczmarczyk, the opportunity is good for both countries to strengthen communication between Polish and Indonesian defense sector companies, such as PT PAL, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, and PT Pindad.
"This visit will later be expected to draw political support to strengthen defense cooperation between the two countries through a joint venture," he said.
Meanwhile, Ryacudu welcomed the Polish government's offer to strengthen cooperation in the defense sector and expressed hope that the existing relationship will become better and continue to increase in future.
"Cooperation between both countries in the defense sector is very important for the improvement of bilateral relations," the Indonesian defense minister added.(*)
