Sabang, Aceh, (Antara) - Researchers from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Office (BMKG), the Indonesian Science Institute (LIPI) and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will meet here on March 8, 2017 to carry out research on two natural phenomenons in Indonesia.
The researchers would study El Nino and Southern Oscillation (ENSO)(ENSO) in the Pacific and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) in the Indian Ocean," head of the Sabang BMKG station Siswanto told ANTARA news agency here on Sunday.
"The two natural phenomenons determine the climatic condition in Indonesia," Siswanto said.
He said the research is part of the package of the activities of the Indonesian Program Initiative on Maritime Observation and Analysis (INAPRIMA) now underway from February 20 to March 16 this year.
He said INAPRIMA is one of three main programs of the government of Indonesia to be priority in maritime development agenda - sea observation.
The activities constitute follow up of the signing of cooperation agreement between Indonesia and the United States earlier on marine mainly related to science and technology, he said.
"The process of research began with the sail with the Buana Jaya VIII ship from the Indian Ocean-Sabang and Sabang-Pidie-Malacca Strait ending in Jakarta. The ship arrived in Sabang and will stay there until March 9, 2017," he said.(*)
