Jakarta, (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) led a commemoration of National Heroes Day at the Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery, South Jakarta, Thursday.
The commemoration was also attended by Vice President M Jusuf Kalla, members of the Parliament, as well as high-ranking police and military officers.
The Head of State as inspector of the ceremony, laid a wreath at a heroes monument located in front of the cemetery.
The ceremony was concluded after Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim led a prayer for fallen heroes.
Jokowi and Kalla later greeted veterans and families of fallen heroes.
From the Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery, President Jokowi proceeded to the Headquarters of Army Special Command Force (Kopassus) at Cijantung to give directives to Kopassus officers.
On Wednesday, the President conferred a national hero title to As'ad Syamsul Arifin, a prominent figure of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the country's largest Muslim organization. (*)
