London (Antara Jatim) - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said Qatar is still open to imported handicraft products, and there is a market for goods produced by small and medium enterprises in Surabaya.

 "We have nurtured a lot of small and medium enterprises and are seeking a market for their products," she said at a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, Vice Marshal (ret) Muhammad Basri Sidehabi SIP.

 Risma, as the Surabaya mayor is popularly called, made a stopover in Qatar while returning from a visit to Cairo where she received an international Ideal Mother award from Cairo University, counselor of the Indonesian Embassy in Qatar, Boy Dharmawan, told
an Antara correspondent based in London on Friday.

Boy said Risma is very interested in handicrafts sold in Doha, particularly at the Souq Wakif traditional market. 

Risma bought several handicraft items which she will use as an example to develop small and medium handicraft industries in Surabaya. Qatar offers a promising market for handicraft products, she added.

While in Qatar, the Surabaya mayor also availed of a chance for Indonesian workers to work in the Middle Eastern country. "We will prepare workers to find employment in Qatar, if needed," she said. (*)
