Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, (Antara) - An aftershock measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale jolted Southwest Sumba in East Nusa Tenggara province at 9.40 am Central Indonesia Standard Time (Wita) on Friday after the two consecutive quakes on Thursday in West Sumba.

Local Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) spokesman Ikhsan remarked that the epicenter of the aftershock was located at 9.29 degrees Southern Latitude and 119.24 degrees Eastern Longitude at a depth of 131 kilometers below the sea level.

Earlier on Thursday at 8.05 am the first quake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale jolted West Sumba.

Ikhsan said the epicenter of the quake was located at 10.16 degrees Southern Latitude and 119.27 degrees Eastern Longitude, some 64 kilometers southwest of West Sumba.

Later on Thursday evening at 5.23 Wita, the second quake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale jolted West Sumba but the first, second and the third quake did not have potential to trigger tsunami.

Ikhsan said the epicenter of the second quake was located at 11.15 degrees Southern Latitude and 119.10 degrees Eastern Longitude at a depth of 121 kilometers below the sea level.(*)
