Jakarta (Antara) - The Young Indonesian Businessmen Association (Hipmi) has voiced its complete support to the commitment made by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to eradicate the piracy mafia plaguing the creative industry in Indonesia. "We fully support President Jokowi's efforts to crack down on the mafia involved in the sale of pirated DVDs," Hipmi Chairman for Creative Economy Yaser Palito stated here on Tuesday. According to Yaser, DVD piracy in Indonesia is very systematic and well organized, and as a result, pirated DVDs are distributed in malls in major cities across the country. Therefore, he noted that the Hipmi Central Executive Board has urged the National Police (Polri) to immediately arrest the mafia behind the sale of bootleg DVDs/CDs in accordance with the instructions issued by President Jokowi. "Hipmi has urged the police to immediately arrest the mafia circulating pirated DVDs and CDs," Yaser noted. President Jokowi has urged law enforcers to eradicate piracy in the creative industry by arresting the members of the piracy mafia in a bid to develop the industry in the country. "I have ordered the Indonesian Police chief to handle the issue seriously," the president remarked here on Monday. The president welcomed the representatives of the Indonesian Recording Industry Association (Asiri) and the Indonesian Song Creators and Singers Association at the State Palace in Jakarta.(*)
