Jakarta (Antara) - About 70 dishes were displayed at the Indonesian Culinary Festival held by the Indonesian Consulate General Office in Houston, the United States, Saturday, the consulate general said in a press statement on Sunday. "All traditional dishes from Indonesia can be found in this festival. We want to show the people in Houston about Indonesia's rich culinary culture," said Indonesia's Consul General in Houston Henk Saroinsong. The festival was visited by about 1,000 local people and Indonesians living in Houston. Some of the visitors even came from cities outside Houston such as Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Louisiana. "Indonesian food is one of the best food in the world. I don't regret coming all the way here to taste the food," said Megan, a US citizen living in Dallas (about four hours road trip from Houston). The Indonesian Culinary festival held in Houston recently was the first event ever held there. It aimed to promote Indonesian food to the people in Houston. The festival displayed 70 dishes divided into four zones namely the Java and Madura zone, the Sumatra zone, the Kalimantan and Sulawesi zone and the Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua zone. Each zone presented traditional food and beverages from the zone it represented. (*)
