Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - Four Indonesian female shuttlers advanced to the quarterfinals of the "Jaya Raya Junior International Challenge 2014" tournament after outplaying their opponents at the Sudirman Sports Stadium here on Thursday.
Second-seeded Fitriani is one of the host shuttlers who moved to the quarterfinals, having beaten her compatriot Malikhatus Solekha 21-9, 21-10. Fitriani who has just joined the national training camp in Cipayung, East Jakarta, will play against host shuttler Priskila Siahaya who beat Piramon Chamnaktan of Thailand 21-14, 21-15.
Two other Indonesian women's singles players who will play in the quarterfinals are fourth-seeded Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and seventh-seeded Marsa Indah Salsabila.
Gregoria Mariska had to play three games to beat Jauza Fadhila Sugiarto 21-11, 18-21, 21-11, and so did Marsa Indah Salsabila who outscored Vehrenica Debora Rumate 13-21, 21-12, 21-16.
The other women's singles quarterfinals will have Alisa Sapniti and Pattarasuda Chaiwan of Thailand, while Na Ra Jang of South Korea will play in the women's singles quarterfinals against Jiamin Yeo of Singapore.
Indonesian women's single badminton coach Bambang Supriyanto of the national training camp said he was satisfied with the performance of host shuttlers who managed to advance to the quarterfinals, hoping they would secure a place in the finals.
The six-day tournament, which opened on Tuesday, brings together 300 shuttlers from six countries, including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea, and host Indonesia. (*)
