Jakarta (Antara) - Former director general of Hajj and "Umrah" operation of the Religious Affairs Ministry (PHU), Anggito Abhimanyu, has complied to the summons by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the alleged corruption case in the ministry.
"The person concerned has been examined because of suspicions on Suryadharma Ali "SDA" (former religious affairs minister)," according to KPK's chief of reporting and information affairs Priharsa Nugraha here on Monday, adding that the alleged corruption with respect to the hajj affairs had occurred during 2012-2013.
Anggito, who arrived at the KPK building about 10.00 a.m. local time, made no comment to the press.
In addition to Anggito, KPK had also examined the deputy chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR)'s commission VIII, which is partnered with the Religious Affairs Ministry, Gondo Radityo Gambiro, including a member of Commission VIII Nurul Iman Mustafa.
In the investigation, KPK had unraveled a case of nepotism because SDA had allegedly taken a trip for the hajj pilgrimage affairs along with his family, outside elements of the family, officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and members of the House of Representatives, when the quota should have been prioritized for people who had already been in the waiting list for years, even though the group is paying for Hajj.
The former religious affairs minister was named suspect based on the presumption of Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 regarding the eradication of corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) point 1 of Article 65 of the Criminal Code.
