Jakarta, May 23 (Antara) - The Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa presidential and vice presidential candidate pair's electability can be increased if it supports the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)'s efforts in handling the alleged Suryadharma Ali (SDA)'s corruption case, stated an observer.
"The Prabowo-Hatta duo can increase its electability if it supports the KPK's efforts to handle the alleged corruption case involving SDA. By supporting the KPK, the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair can win the sympathy of the voters and increase its electability," Agung Suprio of the University of Indonesia noted here on Friday.
Suprio reiterated that the Prabowo-Hatta pair can show its commitment towards fighting corruption by supporting the KPK's efforts in handling the SDA case.
SDA, who is the chairman of the United Development Party (PPP), one of the political parties supporting the Prabowo-Hatta duo, was named a corruption suspect by the KPK on Thursday.
Agung remarked that if the Prabowo-Hatta pair took a firm stance regarding the SDA case, the public would then perceive them as leaders who are not discriminatory in their fight against corruption.
SDA being named as a corruption suspect will only have a minor effect on Prabowo-Hatta's electability because SDA is not the icon of PPP, Agung emphasized. (*)
