Jakarta (Antara) - The anti graft body, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), on Thursday detained former Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Andi Alfian Mallarangeng for developments related to the National Sports Education, Training and School (P3SON) in Bukit Hambalang, West Java.
"Today, I went through the detention process ordered by the KPK, as per the anti-graft body's provisions and I accept this detention to help a speedy settlement of the case," Andi said after he was questioned at the KPK building here.
Wearing a KPK detainee jacket, Andi was accompanied by his three lawyers Harry Pontoh, Ifdal Hasyim and Luhut MP Pangaribuan.
"Suspect AAM (Andi Alfian Mallarangeng) will be detained at the KPK's detention center during the first 20 days," said KPK spokesman Johan Budi.
One of the Hambalang case suspects, former Planning bureau chief u of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Deddy Kusdinar who was the Commitment Officer, is already under KPK's detention since June 13, 2013.
It was the second time last week that the commission investigated Andi as a suspect. He was earlier investigated in July.
KPK had named three suspects in the Hambalang project corruption case investigation. These are former Planning chief bureau of the Youth and Sports Ministry Deddy Kusdinar as the Commitment Officer, former Minister Alifian Andi Mallarangeng as Budget Administrator and former Director of Operations 1 PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Teuku Bagus Mukhamad Noor .
All three suspects are alleged to have violated Article 1 or Article 2, paragraph 3 of article 31 of Law No. 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 and article 55 verse (1) of the 1 Criminal Code to enrich themselves, others or corporation in a way that hurt the state finances, while article 3 of the act governs actions to unduly reward oneself, or another person or a corporation, or indulge in misuse of office or position of authority that could harm the state.
Former Chairman of the Democratic Party Anas Urbaningrum was also named as a suspect in the case for having received gifts related to the Hambalang project and other projects. He was booked under article 12, subparagraph a or b, or Article 11 of Law No. 31 of 1999, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, applicable to state officials who accept bribes or gratuities.
The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) set the losses incurred in the Hambalang case at Rp463.66 billion. (*)
