Kupang - The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province needs around Rp5 trillion a year to build and repair its road infrastructure in the ext ten years. "Currently the budget set for road infrastructure in NTT is very limited around at Rp1.2 trillion to Rp1.5 trillion a year, but the province is optimistic it could carry out its road infrastructure projects in the next five to ten years," head of the provincial public works office Andre Koreh said . Andre said with the limited funds, the public works office has to build infrastructure projects on a tight priority scale. The priority scale is set by taking into account the urgency of the project, efficiency as well as quality and quantity, he said here on Thursday. "All projects must be for the interest of the people," he added. He said NTT has 2,939.86 kilometers of road including 1,700 kilometers of provincial roads. In 2011, around 1,478 kilometers of the roads were in bad condition and need repairs. Around Rp1.2 trillion would be needed to maintain good condition of the provincial roads, but fund available from the state and regional budgets was less than Rp200 billion a year. (*)
