Jakarta, (Antara) - Secretary General of ASEAN-China Center (ACC), Yang Xiuping, said Indonesia plays an important role in strengthening the relations and cooperation of ASEAN and China in the future.
"Indonesia is a big country in ASEAN, with great economic potential, and has the largest population in region, therefore Indonesia has a potential to play an important role in improving relations and cooperation between both parties," he told Antara on the sidelines of his visit to Jakarta on July 3-5, 2017.
Xiuping accompanied by ACC's Director of Information and Public Relations Vithit Powattan and seven Chinese media who are visiting Jakarta as part of routine program of mutual visit of ASEAN and China journalists facilitated by the center.
The former Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN said that Indonesia as one of the ASEAN's founders has an important role to promote relationship and cooperation of ASEAN and China in the future.
"ASEAN and China are committed to strengthen mutual support and development, and Indonesia has an important role to play in strengthening the commitment," Xiuping said.
He added that every country including eleven ASEAN member states and China has its own issues to be resolved. "However, through good and strong relationships and cooperation all can be solved well," Xiuping said.
The former attache of the Mandarin Division of the United Nations in Geneva said that ASEAN and China's relations and cooperation are getting better and promising over time.
"There are still many cooperation opportunities that can be established by both parties in the future and this is which the role of Indonesia to encourage new cooperation and strengthen cooperation that has been going well," he said.
Xiuping's visit with seven Chinese media to Jakarta aims to strengthen mutual understanding between ASEAN and Chinese people.(*)
