Jakarta (Antara) - As many as 300 ulemas from across Indonesia will join the anti-terrorism movement initiated by the Indonesian National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT).
The ulemas will help the agency detect potential terrorist groups as early as possible through discussions scheduled to be held at Al Hikam Islamic Boarding School in Jakarta's southern outskirts of Depok from December 6 to 8, the agency said in a press statement released on Wednesday.
They will map out the root cause of terrorism in the country, the agency added.
The BNPT further noted that a number of experts and academics will attend the three-day meeting, wherein they will come up with recommendations on ways to handle terrorism, starting from its root cause.
It seems that terrorism has only been combated on the surface so far, while the root of the issue is very complex. This could range from poverty, beliefs, and understanding to external influences, the agency explained.
Moreover, as every religion has its own doctrine, misinterpreting them could lead to radical understanding, the BNPT cautioned.
Therefore, the anti-terrorism body will involve ulemas to help combat the issue beginning from the upstream, the statement affirmed. (*) Reported by Rangga Pandu Asmara Jingga
